Yesterday, in Ansbach, Germany, a homemade bomb was detonated at the entrance of the Ansbach Open music festival, killing the attacker and leaving at least 12 injured. No attendees were killed in the bombing, though it is reported that three victims are in critical condition.
The attack was carried out by a 27-year-old refugee who was denied asylum in Bavaria, but permitted to stay in Germany due to ongoing civil war in Syria. After being refused entrance to the festival, the man detonated an explosive in his backpack, which sources say was filled with nails and screws. Investigators have found bomb making supplies and equipment in the perpetrator’s home, and a video was discovered on the man’s phone of him pleading allegiance to the Islamic State.
The investigation is still under way, and we will update information as more details will become available. Our hearts are with the victims and their families, and we wish them a full and rapid recovery.
