Ecstasy Use Involved In Deaths Of Two At Sunset Music Festival

We never enjoy reporting on deaths at music festivals, especially when we believe they could have been avoided. Back in May, two died at Sunset Music Festival in Tampa, Florida. Two individuals, Katie Bermudez, 21, of Kissimmee and Alex Haynes, 22, of Melbourne, died over the weekend.

According to an autopsy report released yesterday, the cause of death of both individuals can be attributed to use of the drug ecstasy.

A report from police suggested that EDM events “attract drug use,” and even though arrests were at a three-year low this year, “many arrests and citations were given for MDMA, LSD and marijuana.”

In another earlier report the Tampa Fire Rescue said the suspected drug use combined with severe heat “put a significant drain on manpower.”

The Tampa Sports Authority is expected to release a separate review in a month or so according to an authority spokesman.
