Snapchat has announced a rollout of several major updates to its app, spearheaded by the addition of a brand new feature called “Memories.” According to a blog post on the service’s website, Memories will allow users to create personal albums of their favorite snaps. These collections will be searchable by keyword and viewable even after they’ve been removed from users’ Stories.
“It’s super easy to find the Snap or Story you’re looking for in just a few seconds by typing keywords like “dog” or “Hawaii” — that way you can spend less time searching and more time enjoying your Memories. You can use Memories to create new Stories from Snaps you’ve taken, or even combine different Stories into a longer narrative! It’s fun to celebrate an anniversary or birthday by finding a few old Snaps and stringing them together into a new Story.”
If a particular Snapchat is best kept private, users will have the option to mark it for “My Eyes Only.” Users will be able to add past snaps to their current stories, as well as take photos and videos from their camera rolls for use in Stories.
“If you post a Snap you took more than a day ago to your Story, it will appear with a frame around it so that everyone knows it’s from the past. We realized that Snapchatters want to feel comfortable showing their Memories to friends while they’re hanging out together, so we made it easy to move Snaps and Stories to My Eyes Only — and avoid awkward moments when a friend stumbles upon a Snap meant just for you.”
Memories will be backed up on Snapchat itself, not users’ camera rolls. The new updates are expected to emerge next month.
