Major Apple Supplier Prepares For Elimination Of iPhone Headphone Jack

The jury’s still out on whether or not the newest iPhone version will have a dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack. While “leaked” photos have surfaced confirming a separate headphone port in the upcoming model, other rumors about it being replaced with Lightning cable compatibility have led manufacturing companies to begin preparing themselves to accommodate consumers.

Cirrus Logic, a Texas-based supplier of audio chips for Apple, revealed a development kit on Wednesday that they believe will help fellow companies build MFi-certified headphones (Made For iPhone/iPad/iPod) for the upcoming iPhone model. The kit includes design references and a development board for manufacturers to align themselves with the seemingly inevitable new standard.

Although the removal of a headphone jack has not been confirmed, it’s difficult to ignore the activities of Cirrus Logic, which earns over 70% of its revenue from Apple.

Stay tuned for more information as it surfaces.
