We Ran As A Pack At What The Festival [Review]

For the first time since I’ve begun covering shows, I am truly stumped on how to encapsulate what unfolded this past weekend. Simply put, What The Festival was majestic. Underneath central Oregon’s star-sprinkled sky, What The Fest pounded its way through the summer solstice. And it was nothing short of refreshing.

It felt as though Wolf Run Ranch washed us free of the stresses from everyday-life, swooping us back to a more primal and naturalistic state. In this haven, where we could freely explore and celebrate the beauties of humanity, we danced, laughed, learned and lived. We developed an undeniable sense of camaraderie.

We ran together as a pack.

Tucked underneath an absolutely breathtaking view of Mt. Hood, WTF included eight stages. Together we stomped, and sometimes splashed, our way through the sets of Bonobo, Claude VonStroke, Thievery Corporation, Mr. Carmack, Lunice, and many more. Ranging from a pool-party to a fire-breathing dragon to a monstrous LED Rubix’s cube, each stage hosted artists that matched the themes perfectly.

We went on a journey through the Illuminated Forest, exploring the most immersive and interactive art I have ever experienced at a festival. We got sucked underneath the streamers that made you feel like you were swimming through a jellyfish’s tentacles; we journeyed through different worlds in the hexagon domes; we created music through a modified vintage cash register.

We broadened our understanding of movement through workshops of yoga, dance, meditation and wizardry. Together we learned to treat our minds and body with the respect it deserves and craves.

WTF ?! 2016-2

Most importantly, we explored within. Through experiencing others we wound up finding what happiness means in its entirety. Together we explored and embodied our unique selves without restrictions. It was a beautiful thing to be a part of. Never have I felt so alive, satisfied and free from a weekend.

Thank you, What The Festival, for a profound celebration of life.
