One of the most entertaining mysteries in underground music has been spending his time releasing bass house on the Tchami label Confession and appearing at his live performances with a grand entourage of look-a-likes in all black outfits and onyx ski masks. The DJ and producer who appears to be getting dressed for a bank heist Malaa made a major splash with singles like “Notorious” sampling Notorious B.I.G., “Fade” sampling Kool G. Rap and Nas, and “H+M” sampling Noir. From remixing major tunes from Major Lazer, Tchami, the Weeknd, and Post Malone to revealing his sounds and inspirations in his Who Is Malaa? podcast series, Malaa brings a new single that is prepping fans for his upcoming EP.
The new track titled “Diamonds” brings menacing bass and sharp drums bundled together to introduce listeners to his latest creation. From here, Malaa delivers his underground sound through shuttering rhythm mixed with hip-hop and techno influences. Keeping the consistency he has like his previous track “Arsenic” with Maximono, “Diamonds” emits the atmosphere of fearless It has become one of the enigmatic producer’s most well-known IDs being played by DJ Snake, Tchami, Mercer, and Malaa himself since the latter’s monster set from Ultra Music Festival in Miami earlier this year. If this is a taste of what an EP from the most ominous member of the “Pardon My French” crew sounds like, then expectations are set high for the day the full piece drops.
