180 members of the music industry have joined forced to back a petition that seeks to reform the Digital Music Copyright Act, which regulates online copyright law on sites like Youtube. The petition and its mission statement will be posted in an ad through several Washington, D.C. magazines. Among the signees are none other than dance music powerhouses Deadmau5, ZHU and Krewella.
The DMCA, they say, was written in an era that no longer exists. The resources necessary for modern creators to comply with the law’s application are simply impossible to muster, the petition states. “We ask you to enact sensible reform that balances the interests of creators with the interests of the companies who exploit music for their financial enrichment.”
