Woman Declared Dead Wednesday After Attending EDC

A 20-year-old woman was declared dead Wednesday night after her heart stopped on Monday morning while waiting for a shuttle after EDC Las Vegas’s final day.

The woman collapsed and began convulsing at about 6 a.m. Monday, her father said. It took 10 minutes for paramedics to arrive at the scene after her friends called 911, he said, in which time her heart had already stopped.

Doctors told the woman’s parents that the causes of her death were dehydration, exhaustion and heatstroke. The county coroner’s office will determine the precise cause and manner of her death on Friday after her organs are collected for donation.

In response to the tragic incident, Insomniac issued a brief statement.

“We were shocked and saddened to learn that a young woman who had attended the festival passed away today, June 23, 2016. Our sincerest thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of the woman. While the cause of this tragedy has not yet been determined, we ask everyone to keep her loved ones in their prayers during their time of grieving.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to direct funds to the woman’s family. The page’s most recent update reads as follows:

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I type this update. Kenani has unfortunately passed away this evening. Dane and family were with her and are finding comfort in each other as well as their faith. Kenani was a beautiful, sweet, talented young lady. I never once saw her without a smile. Dane specifically asked that I update everyone and thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, love, and donations. He and the rest of Kenani’s family have been moved and very touched by your outpouring of support. God bless you all. The next step is still uncertain so I will update again when more information is available in regards to any events planned in memory of Nani. With love, Jerod

The temperatures in Las Vegas reached a high of 109 degrees over the weekend of EDC. Insomniac, the Metropolitan Police Department, Your EDM and many other publications initially reported that no fatalities had occurred during EDC weekend.

Today, we grieve with the woman’s family and close friends. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are extended to everyone affected by her tragic passing.
