Alfons! Thanks for joining us. Have you been busy so far this year?
Yes, it has been a crazy year! I never knew that ‘Ganjaman’ would change my life this way. But I like it, and hope that my new track ‘Jamrock Land’ makes it even crazier!
Your latest track ‘Jamrock Land’ has just dropped on Universal Sweden. Tell us a little about what this track is about…
‘Jamrock Land’ is the name of a land, far from the other world. It is a land where everyone is accepting and caring of each other. A land where there are no policemen – yet still no crime! There is no evil in Jamrock Land. In Jamrock Land there is almost no pollution, and everyone values the nature with grace. This is the land of Ganjaman.
Is that you on the vocals? If so, they sound great!
The story of the vocals is quite complicated actually. And I wish I could tell you about it, but I can’t… But I can say that the vocal is a combination of several voices – compressed into one.
The track goes back to your original style that originally threw you into the spotlight in the first place. Why the change?
That’s probably cause I really like reggae – I like Bob Marley and some of his values. The combination of them gave me the inspiration and energy to do this. I missed my “Ganjaman” sound!
What do you think is the most challenging thing in the music industry right now? How would you change that?
Hmm… I don’t know if I can give you the right answer here. Nowadays, when music can be made more easily, I think people tend to push out music without putting so much effort to it – at least not as much as people did before when you needed a sound engineer, an artist, a singer, real tapes etc. So before, when you did a track, you really gave it every piece of energy and love that you had.
I really don’t want to sound like a grumpy pessimist, but that is what I think. One more thing is that I find it confusing with all these new platforms – Tidal, Spotify, Apple Music etc. Which one should you focus on?!
You clearly like to experiment with different styles. What can we expect from you next?
I am releasing my fat club edit of ‘Jamrock Land’ now, which I really think you will like. Other from that, my next song is already made! And it will be another song with great Jamaican vibes!
