It’s been awhile since the music community got a whiff of when a fresh Gorillaz album will be due. With news that Vic Mensa was added as newest collaborator to the band’s latest project, it seems that Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn, the band’s artist Jamie Hewlett, and company would have the LP out sometime this year. According to new insight, however, this may not be the case.
A post from a fan page called GorillazNorthAmerica cited Jamie Hewlett as saying that the “really fuckin’ special” album cannot be rushed and will probably see the light of day in 2017.
Although very little news has surfaced regarding the untitled album, photos of studio sessions have shown Liam Bailey, the Twilite Tone, and Jean Michel-Jarre collaborating on what could end up being the new album. This would be the first album the band puts out since their fourth and third studio albums The Fall and Plastic Beach which came out in 2011 and 2010 respectively. In the time since the last albums were released, Damon Albarn has worked on his debut solo album Everyday Robots and reunited with Blur for the 2015 album The Magic Whip. Meanwhile, Jamie Hewlett revealed his first art exhibition called “The Suggestionists” in London which was followed by an American debut in Manhattan.
