Talk about influence… the entire Flying Dutch Festival – Swedish Journey has been cancelled because promoters Alda Events are not confident in Avicii’s ability to show up.
In a press release posted to their website early this morning, Alda Events claims that attempts to reach Avicii’s team and confirm his presence at the festival have gone unanswered. Avicii’s appearance at The Flying Dutch would have been his final performances in the Netherlands.
“These past weeks we experienced uncertainty because Avicii was cancelling a lot of shows all over the world,” says organiser John Ewbank. “Our request to Avicii and his management to provide a guarantee of his attendance at our event went to no avail. They can’t vouch for his presence. This uncertainty is unacceptable. We can’t do that to our audience.”
“We regret this very much, also because these would be his final shows in our country,” said Allan Hardenberg of Alda. “We understand that the fans will be disappointed, especially because everyone realises how unique this event would have been.”
The Flying Dutch was to take place on Saturday, July 30 in The Hague, Nijmegen and Den Bosch and would feature Dada Life, Alesso, Steve Angello, and a “special guest duo” that we can only assume to be Axwell Λ Ingrosso. The fact that Avcii’s absence alone is enough to cripple the festival is a testament to his star power in Europe.
Everyone who had already bought a ticket will receive a refund. They will be informed by Alda Events, and their website will also contain information about how to get a refund.
