Zedd’s New Documentary Shows Just How Incredible He Really Is

One of my first assignments working for Your EDM was attending the Los Angeles premiere of the Swedish House Mafia movie, Leave The World Behind. It was the first time I had attended a “premiere event” in Los Angeles and I was both starstruck and incredibly humbled to be a part of it.

Fast forward two years to last night in Los Angeles, and the world premiere of the Zedd “True Colors” documentary, and I’m a little more mature and more secure in my role. The theater was positively buzzing with anticipation, especially considering the film started about 15 minutes late. But once the lights went down and the music started, you could tell that everyone had their eyes absolutely glued to the screen.

The film chronicled Zedd’s history from his time at home in Germany in a metal band with his brother and friends, to the production of Clarity with Foxes and Hayley Williams, to the album listening events all across the country for True Colors, as well as the accompanying world tour to major venues like Madison Square Garden and The Staples Center.

If there was one thing to learn about Zedd from the movie, it’s his drive, his zealous passion for perfection and interaction with every one of his fans. Multiple times throughout the movie and subsequent Q&A, his devotion to fans was mentioned, often accompanied by comments like, “We apologized for how much time it took, and he just said he wished he had more.” [referring to meet & greets]

Following the movie and Q&A, Zedd brought out special guests Aloe Blacc, Sydney from Echosmith, and Kesha to perform “Illusion,” “Candyman,” and “True Colors,” respectively. The acoustic performances were definitely the highlight of the night. You can see his performance with Kesha below, filmed with a shitty cameraphone, but we think you’ll appreciate it nonetheless.
