This week’s Billboard Dance Music charts are bringing in some familiar names, but some of the inclusions are leaving us scratching our head. A few of the categories in the charts include Top Dance/Electronic Albums, Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, and Dance Club Songs, which are mostly headed by the usual suspects.
Nestled in the #1 spot of the Hot Dance Songs category are The Chainsmokers with their wildly successful hit, “Don’t Let Me Down.” The duo can be found in a few other spots in the top 25, with “Roses” from their debut EP Bouquet still at #6, and their newest single Inside Out” at #20. Notable mentions in the rest of this category include Kygo with four tracks charting: three from his debut album and his track with Dillon Francis, “Coming Over.” Kygo & Dillon also nab their first #1 each on the Dance Club Songs chart. Calvin Harris can be found at #2 for his track “This Is What You Came For” featuring Rihanna. Australia’s Flume, fresh off the release of his sophomore album, is sitting comfortably at #5 with his single with singer Kai, “Never Be Like You.” Check out the full list of songs HERE!
The Top Albums chart is where things start to get a little interesting. The top album isn’t the album of a single artist, but rather a compilation made by none other than Now That’s What I Call Music. These comps have been around for ages, and seeing one charting at #1 in 2016 is surprising to say the least. The album features some of the mist popular songs in EDM, including “Where Are Ü Now,” “Lean On,” and “Five More Hours.” Charting at #2 is trio-turned-duo Krewella, whose newest EP Ammunition was the first official release from the group in nearly three years. Kygo returns to the charts for his album Cloud Nine, this time at the #3 position. One extremely odd name worth mentioning is settled towards the bottom of the list: 3OH!3. The electronic-crunk-rap-idontevenknow duo recently dropped an album titled Night Sports, which is charting at #12. I haven’t seen their name since middle school when they released songs with Ke$ha, but more power to them for still being successful in the game.
