Spotify Predicts The Summer Hit of 2016

The month of June might just be the best month of the year. Summer trademarks like music festivals, ice-cream, and the ability to wear t-shirts and shorts (and let’s not forget sundresses…) outside of LA all beckon, but it’s figuring out just what the top summer hit on the radio will be that’s really got me excited

If you’re like me and you don’t regularly listen to the radio, you might be feeling a little out of the loop. Don’t worry though, because Spotify has got you covered with a solid playlist (of course it’s a playlist) of 10 potential hits.

Most of the names are no strangers to radio chart-toppers with Ariana Grande, Justin Timberlake, Drake, and Rihanna all featured. Unfortunately for Miss Grande and Barbados’ most famous export, it’s also been pointed out by NY Daily News that male artists typically dominate the summer radio hit which brings us to one of two EDM connections on the list – The Chainsmokers and Calvin Harris.

EDM’s new favourite duo has absolutely been on fire having already charted in the Billboard Hot 100’s top 10 twice in the last 6 months alone with “Roses” and “Don’t Let Me Down.” Spotify seems to think that “Don’t Let Me Down” with vocalist Daya will continue in that vein as the single continues to rise, having just hit #5 this week.

Ignoring my earlier comment about summer being a supposedly male-dominated chart, “This Is What You Came For” by Rihanna and Calvin Harris currently sits at #11 after peaking at #9 a few weeks ago. Don’t feel too bad for Ri-Ri though, she’s currently got two #10 tracks in the Billboard Hit 100 of her own.

If you’re more of an underdog kind of guy, Spotify’s also got you covered, singling out “Panda” by rapper Desiigner and “Capsize” by Frenship as two potential under-the-radar hits…and if you’re into country there’s always Keith Urban as well!
