18 women reported instances of sexual assault to German police which reportedly occurred at this weekend’s Schlossgrabenfest music festival in Darmstadt. Three Pakistani refugees were arrested during the event after three women came forward immediately following the alleged attacks.
The four-day, 400,000 person event saw immense crowds congregate for the expansive list of performing acts throughout the weekend. The size of the crowds, however, was exactly what allowed the alleged assaulters to carry out more than a dozen lewd acts, police said in a statement. Three women said that they had been surrounded by a group of men with a South Asian appearance and then assaulted.
The three women who spoke out immediately following the attacks said that they had been surrounded by a group of men with a South Asian appearance and then assaulted. The 15 women who came forward after the event described their own experiences in a similar manner.
More than one million refugees, mainly from North Africa and the Middle East, have received asylum in Germany since 2015, with hundreds of thousands more expected to arrive in the coming years. The German government plans to allocate over $105 billion towards assimilating, educating and caring for refugees over the next five years.

“The majority don’t have a clue how to approach the opposite sex in this country.”
These instances of sexual assault at Schlossgrabenfest follow similar reports from Sweden in 2015, New York in 2016, Electric Zoo in 2013 and Ultra in 2016, among others.
