Music Venues & Festivals Warned Of Possible Terrorist Threat

Following the terrorist attacks in Paris and Brussels recently, officials in the EU have increased awareness and security of terrorist activities like never before. In recent anti-terrorism briefing at Wembley Stadium, music executives were invited to hear Neil Basu, deputy assistant commissioner with the Metropolitan police, who is in charge of the country’s protective security, speak about possible terrorist targets.

Considering the terrorist attacks in Paris last year included a music venue, Basu has concluded that high-population areas, large gatherings like music festivals, would make prime targets for terrorist attacks.

“These people are perfectly happy to target civilians with the maximum terror impact,” he said. “Crowded places were always a concern for us, but now they are right at the top of the agenda.”

We’ve already heard reports that Tomorrowland in Belgium is increasing their security with added measure like metal detectors at the front gates. Many other venues in and around the EU are likely to do the same.
