It’s all good though, because you can start catching up right here, right now with their latest release: the Ego Altar EP from Brooklyn beat hustler, Esseks.
A frequent collaborator of fellow bass music pioneers like Space Jesus and Yheti and an extremely talented producer, Essek‘s unique style of music making truly shines on this EP. He manages to cover a stunning amount of ground over the course of just five tracks, with various bass music styles ranging from experimental trap and grime to new-school glitch all well represented. Hard kicks drive the release’s progression, yet the percussion remains understated to let the more dynamic synth wizardry have the spotlight. Gritty sub-bass wobbles form a perfect backdrop for sparkling, digital melodies and thick, aggressive rhythms. The sound design here is truly impressive and the arrangement is spot on; there’s a lot going on in most of these tracks, but no element feels out of place.
