Outkast’s “Hey Ya” is a timeless classic. There’s no getting around the fact that when it comes on the radio, you know the words, and you’re going to sing along. Many have tried (unsuccessfully) to remix the tune into a palatable version to be played out at shows. My personal favorite is actually a cover from the show Scrubs. Or at least, it used to be…
The dark and sinister beats in the intro belie the true nature of the track: a downright uplifting interpretation of the R&B classic that blends modern future bass styles with incredible vocals, courtesy of KAMAU. Of course, I’m not surprised – it’s Sweater Beats we’re talking about here. The dude has always been on top of his game when it comes to production, and he’s just finally found an incredible track to cover.
I’ve already had this on repeat since I received a preview last week, you’ll bet it’s going to be on repeat for another. Be sure to cop your free download.
