A restaurant in New Orleans threw out Ruby Rose, DJ and actress, after claiming that she became violent and belligerent, even throwing food at the waitstaff. “She was having like a tantrum. She was awful,” said Rebellion Bar and Urban Kitchen owner Seung Hong, noting that Rose “cursed out” the bartender at whom food was thrown. “She was a horrible person.”
Rose, however, had a different side to the story which she addressed in a post to her Facebook. According to her, the restaurant made her table wait approximately 90 minutes for the food they ordered – in consolation, the waitstaff offered drinks. Explaining that she was sober, Rose writes that the waitstaff made derogatory remarks about her sobriety.
“When someone makes repeated derogatory jokes about the sobriety I worked so hard to achieve, it’s hard not to react emotionally. So I threw a singular fry at him. Then he came back as we were getting ready to leave and continued making awful comments, so I continued with the fries.”
Hong tells a different story. According to her, the table had appetizers in 40 minutes and entrees soon after, but Rose apparently thought that it was “unsatisfactory.”
“I offered to comp the appetizers, but (Rose) was losing her cool, and then I offered to buy them a round of drinks,” Hong said. Rose declined the drinks, and Hong left the table to return to business. “One of my bartenders was walking by and could tell they were upset, and (Rose) threw food at him. … Ruby told my bartender that if she was a bigger man, she would kick my ass, meaning me.”
The comments on Rose’s Facebook post range from supportive, to skeptical of her story, to downright rude. One of the commenters claims to be an employee of the restaurant who was working that night. While Rose replied to many of the comments on her post, she did not reply to this one.
“I was working and you were completely rude. We warned you about the wait, offered you bar dining (hence the wait) [sic],” wrote Brianna Trosclair. “I struggle with bi polar and that’s no excuse to ever treat another human with that much disrespect. We were very hospitable and your actions were ugly. There is no excuse to ever treat another individual like you did. Hope you feel very adult about your actions. Hope NOLA kicks you in the ass, this city is too beautiful for you to taint it.”
