Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” Is Three Years Old Today

“Get Lucky” was the first single to be released from Daft Punk’s fourth and most recent studio album, Random Access Memories.

It was the first track that helped to provide a different look at the predominantly electronic band. This new song showed them using mostly live instrumentation, alongside an epic collaboration with Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams.

In speaking about the track, Rodgers said, “When I think how it happened, too, with people who I like a lot, that we just decided to go into the studio and do something… And then it turns out like this? It’s absolutely remarkable, because no-one was prepared for this! […] to have this ubiquitous record, that is a hit everywhere… It’s amazing to me! I’m out on the road and I can hear it wherever I go. I’m flabbergasted!”

The track was so ubiquitously successful that it won a Grammy for Record Of The Year. Not just “dance” record either, it was up against picks from Bruno Mars, Lorde, Imagine Dragons, and Robin Thicke. This was a massive hit and continues to be today.

Its legacy lives on today, but not as much as the hype surrounding a possible Alive 2017 performance… or hell, even any new music from Daft Punk. They’ve been quiet except for releasing new items of merch – a nice, if meaningless, platitude to fans.

Perhaps this year will be the one we finally hear something new? Who knows.
