“I can’t say I’m never going to have a show again,” says Avicii.
It’s been a little over a week since Avicii announced his supposed retirement from touring, and yet in a seemingly odd fashion, he contradicts himself. Then again, a one-off show and a tour are two completely different things.
In the meantime, Avicii is really enjoying the relief of a lot of stress that the announcement would bring. After all, an announcement of that caliber can only be made once in a career and it has to be done right. 
“I was nervous when I made the announcement,” he says, “mainly that I would look ungrateful. But I’ve gotten so many supportive texts from friends in the industry, other DJs, other artists. The fan response has been incredible. And even the press response has been incredible. So yeah, it’s been a lot better than I expected.”
With the exception of deadmau5, of course… “Yeah, I saw that,” says Avicii, of the Deadmau5 tweet. “That’s fine. It’s not my problem if he can’t quit.”

The interview on The Hollywood Reporter was scheduled to speak about the artist’s upcoming documentary, Stories, which shares a name with his most recent album. The film would focus on Avicii’s career from “the release of his debut album, True, in 2013 to his follow-up,” Stories, last year. However, the interview became much more introspective and reflective, a mood that has to be due to the recent announcement.
“It’s been a very crazy journey. I started producing when I was 16. I started touring when I was 18. From that point on, I just jumped into 100 percent,” Avicii recalls. “When I look back on my life, I think, ‘Whoa, did I do that?’ It was the best time of my life in a sense. It came with a price — a lot of stress a lot of anxiety for me — but it was the best journey of my life.”
Avicii still has 33 dates left on his “last tour” before he calls it quits on August 28 in Ibiza, but as he states in his retirement letter, that does not mean the end of Avicii as a brand. Not by a long shot. If anything, Avicii says he’ll be working on more music than ever with the extra time in the studio, and he’ll have another album coming along before too long, too.
“I’m collecting what I have left from the last eight years, stuff I’ve always loved but haven’t had an outlet for, and I’m seeing what to release and what not to release.”
Oh, and that Avicii/Sia collaboration? That’ll probably be on it, too.
For right now though, Avicii is just catching up on current events.
“LCD Soundsystem are getting back together? I didn’t know. I haven’t even been paying attention. That’s super exciting,” Bergling says. He pauses, pondering the idea. “I could envision a comeback. Maybe in 60 years.”
