Producer k?d has just released his latest remix, this time of Los Angeles-based artist Hayley Kiyoko’s original track “Cliffs Edge.” As a fluid mixture between the more melody-oriented aspects of future bass and the heavier feeling of trap, the remix is a refreshing and visceral recreation of the original’s already impactful effect.
It begins with Hayley Kiyoko’s ethereal vocals placed above simple, warbling pads and an oncoming rush of white noise. A shaker punctuates the rhythm while the chords grow larger and more powerful, until the swell towards the drop picks up. Finally, the break explodes outwards into a colossal rush of layered, future bass synth alongside impossibly deep stings of a buzzing bass. After the song breaks back down to its most basic components, it is slowly reconstructed with the help of the bass from earlier.
