Wormhole Music Group, a new(ish) record label from the fine folks who curate Oakland’s Wormhole Wednesday’s, is always on the hunt for new and innovative sounds. Their ears are so close to the ground, it’s fair to say they’re fully subterranean; and while they consistently release a slew of sonic goodness, they really struck audio gold this time around.
Meet the young wizard, Potions; a newcomer out of Santa Cruz with a multifaceted and infectious style, showcased over the course of his newest EP, III. It’s jazzy, it’s goopy, it’s raw, and those are just the first three words that came to mind. In the vein of artists like Josh Pan, Ta-Ku, and Slumberjack, Potions manages to seamlessly fuse dark and gritty vibes with bright, melodic elements to create a straight-up otherworldly atmosphere. The vibes are thick throughout the release, flitting from rough and tumble, 808-laden bangers to laid-back, groovy tunes overflowing with sparkling melodies and stunning instrumentation. In short, you don’t want to be caught sleeping on this EP.
III is available as a name-your-price download via the Wormhole Music Group‘s Bandcamp; the full stream can be found below for your immediate listening pleasure. Be sure to grab a copy if you dig the tunes and support innovation in the bass music scene.
