DJ Fined For Playing “Fuck Tha Police” While Cops Raided Bar

As a DJ, you know that there’s a certain time and place for certain songs. When the club is popping, you don’t want to test out your new ballad; nor if it’s a wedding procession do you want to start playing LMFAO. A DJ in Massachusetts learned this lesson the hard way last week when he was officially charged for disorderly conduct.

Back in October of last year, police began to “clear a rowdy, overcapacity crowd” and the man, Kashawn Harris, AKA DJ Boogy, started to play N.W.A.’s “Fuck Tha Police.” The officers viewed this as trying to incite a riot in the crowd.

“I believed at that time the combination of alcohol, the excessive amount of people in the bar and the song that the DJ chose to play at that time was an intentional act by the DJ to incite the crowd which showed a reckless disregard for public safety,” Officer Juanita Mejias wrote in her report.

For his part, Harris doesn’t believe he did anything wrong. In an interview, he claimed the bar was almost nearly cleared when the song began to play. According to Harris, the song was already cued to play before the police interrupted the party and only a small snippet played before it was shut off.

“I had no intention of inciting a riot,” Harris said. “It was just college kids having fun.”

The fine that Harris had to pay was a meager pittance, a small $50. However, it’s not likely that Harris will forget this experience soon.
