Co-founder of SXSW, Louis J. Meyers has died from an apparent heart attack at 61.
Meyers created SXSW in 1987 with a group of other Austinites as an outlet for musicians. At the first event, only 200 bands were involved in a single hotel. Now, SXSW takes over large parts of Austin and features various showcases focusing on music, film and technology.
“According to friends, he was feeling poorly this morning and asked to be taken to the hospital, where he died. No other details are currently available.”
SXSW began today and continues through March 20.
Our thoughts are with Meyers’ family at this time.
