Pretty Lights is probably one of electronic music producers who least subscribes to the “EDM” model of releasing music, in which a producer will release a steady stream of content as opposed to releasing an album or EP every few years. However, on February 29 Pretty Lights posted several mysterious tweets suggesting that he would no longer be following the traditional album model of releasing music.
Yesterday he followed up those messages with the surprise release of a brand-new song and accompanying music video. Titled “Only Yesterday,” the new track comes with a video that recounts last year’s two-day Pretty Lights’ festival in Telluride, Colorado, including documentary-like shots of Pretty Light’s Analog Future Band and his Pretty Lights Family. The track itself is a return to form for the producer, as it marks a much more soulful direction akin to his few album releases.
