It’s a question that stems from the breaking news of yesterday: 19-year-old Martin Garrix‘s debut release on his new, very own record label.
The announcement of his plans for the label, called STMPD RCRDS, came alongside a special teaser for his debut release, “Now That I’ve Found You.” This song features the suave vocals of John Martin under his new duo project John & Michel. Michel being Michel Zitron, who is renowned as a behind-the-scenes singer, songwriter, and producer and has had a hand in Tiësto‘s “Red Lights” as well as the biggest hits from Swedish House Mafia, Avicii, Alesso & more.
So we all know the track is going to be huge, with collaborators of that caliber, but how exactly do you say “STMPD RCRDS?” Our immediate guess was “Stampede,” but our friends over at r/edm have clarified that it’s neither that nor “Stumped”… but rather “Stamped.” This is allegedly in reference to the stamp auctioning company that his father owns.
Regardless of whether this is correct, from a marketing perspective this is undoubtedly a misguided brand name. The immediate, various interpretations of how to even say it will surely confuse the majority of his followers. That being said, this sole snafu doesn’t quell our excitement for the quality music sure to come from the new imprint in the slightest… And the logo looks great!
