Barack & Michelle Obama Will Give Speeches At SXSW

There are a lot of things that Barack Obama has done in his presidency that has helped propel the position into the 21st century. He’s one of the more progressive presidents we’ve ever had – and I’m not talking about policies. Obama has continually shown his resilience and willingness to learn about modern trends and fads, from appearing on various talk shows to putting out lists of his favorite music for Spotify. Now, he’s set to make another presidential first as he and First Lady Michelle Obama make their way down to SXSW this month to make keynote speeches.

This will be the first time in the 30 years since the festival’s founding that a sitting president and first lady have attended, let alone spoken. The two will speak at separate events. According to Consequence of Sound, “President Obama will appear during SXSW Interactive’s Keynote Conversation on Friday, March 11th, where he will discuss civic engagement in the 21st century with Evan Smith, CEO/Editor-in-Chief of The Texas Tribune. […] The First Lady is scheduled to appear as part of SXSW Music’s opening keynote, taking part in the Let Girls Learn Initiative on Wednesday, March 16th.”

SXSW is an annual event held in Austin, Texas that aims to showcase a variety of technologies and artistic mediums, a lot of it including music. This year’s event coincides with Miami Music Week, which is sure to rack up a lot of airfare miles for managers and artists.
