Vancouver native On Planets has unveiled his first original song today, and boy is it different from his other productions. Sticking mainly to remixing popular tracks (he hass remixed ‘Where Are U Now‘, ‘Weight In Gold‘, and ‘Drake‘s ‘Headlines‘) into more dance-centric, timely concoctions, his first original is something else entirely. And it’s gorgeous.
‘Brief Pause’ is written, sang, and produced by On Planets, and it’s a song above anything else. Gone are the nu-age synthesizer plays, instead replaced with organic, filmic textures that lusciously wrap a forlorn, somber top line within them. The original is out on a brand new boutique LA label named Manifold, even more of a mystery than On Planets. However, this is a very strong first release for the label, and I’m excited to see what they have have coming.
