Since being thrust back into the spotlight after collaborating with Daft Punk, Nile Rodgers has lent his talents to many collaborations with EDM producers. Producing songs for everyone from David Bowie to Madonna, Nile’s musical chops have crossed with Nicky Romero‘s world-renowned progressions for a brand new funk-filled collaboration.
Titled “Future Funk,” the collaboration falls very short from previous electronic/disco like Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” and “Lose Yourself.” As opposed to representing a complementary mixture of genres, Romero dominates the track with generic synths and a forgettable melody. Guitars from Rodgers can be heard, but they become lost among the hodgepodge of Romero’s production. The preview only hints at a little over a minute of the track, but it’s not a promising start. “Future Funk” releases on February 26 on Romero’s Protocol Recordings.
