Covers of songs are an extremely popular way to put your own spin on a track without the backbreaking work of starting something from scratch. It can often be done in between original works to get the creative juices flowing, and they’re (most of the time) a total joy to listen to.
One of the most-covered songs in the past year has undoubtedly been the breakout hit “Where Are Ü Now” with Jack Ü and Justin Bieber. The lyrics are simple, easy and catchy and the melody is actually a lot of fun to try out. However, Kevin Garrett decided to take it a step further.
We’ll copy the most recent comment (at time of publication) here because we totally agree with it, “i love that it just strips down a lot of the sounds…keeps the cool ones and really highlights the vocals.” The vocals certainly shine throughout the cover, and all of the cool bits toward the end of the track are only placed as a finisher rather than a focus. If Skrillex, Diplo and Bieber were ever to perform an [almost] acoustic rendition of “Where Are Ü Now,” this might actually make the set list.
Best of all, Skrillex himself has personally supported the tune, retweeting it to his nearly 5 million followers.
