Once you’re at the top, it only makes sense to capitalize on that success and diversify your brand. GRiZ did it with kush, Kanye did it with Yeezy, and of course everyone knows Beats by Dr. Dre. Sure, these are all thoughtful ways to expand, but owning a sports team is the creme de la creme, and guess who just bought into one?
Along with TMWRK Management, Diplo has led an investment group to purchase a minority equity in Arizona United SC. Apparently, Diplo views the sport the same way he sees music, “as a connective tissue linking the world’s cultures.”
“I’ve been really fortunate to travel all over the world and experience different cultures through music. Wherever I am, Jamaica, Spain, England, China, etc., soccer is a social constant,” Diplo said in a statement. “I wanted to figure out a way to get involved with the game and team sports so when Arizona United presented itself, I immediately jumped at the opportunity.”
Of course, the team couldn’t be happier about the partnership. Imagine the impact a Grammy-nominated artist can have on a brand. Now multiply that by TMWRK’s entire roster… Arizona United is about to see a serious branding overhaul, and it’ll be more than interesting to see what becomes of it. Here’s what Co-Chairman Kyle Eng has to say about it:
“Diplo, throughout his music career as a DJ, Producer and Artist, has always been about global culture, youth culture and inclusiveness, and we couldn’t think of a better match to not only fit our core demographic, but to wrap our team around. The number of ways we can work together to grow the Arizona United SC brand is unlimited with a partner like Diplo.”
