Shazam Reveals Music-Based Finder For Your City’s Twin

Shazam, lately in the news for the release of their top 10 most searched for dance music songs of 2015, has just unveiled an interesting, new feature in conjunction with the BBC music database. After taking search data from nearly 5,000 cities in over 200 countries around the world, Shazam has created a tool to discover the sister location to almost any city you can think of entering in.

To complete this feat, Shazam shared the cities’ top 10 searched for songs to BBC in November. Then, they matched as many songs as they could to BBC’s database, so that users can listen to a preview of the tracks in question. Currently, there are over 10,000 tracks in circulation.

The result is a fun and engaging tool that can be used to find new music, study the listening trends in foreign cities, and find which of them most closely resembles your hometown. For example, according to the tool, Los Angeles’ taste is closest to those in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, New York with Singapore, Toronto with Beer Sheva, Israel, and Barcelona with Tunis, Tunisia.

To check out your own sister city and find the most popular, shared tracks, visit the BBC’s site here.
