Vango’s Diablo 900XL Tent Is Absolutely Enormous

I’ve been to a couple camping festivals, and I’ve been camping as a little kid. I’m definitely not an expert at it, but I’m not completely clueless, either. One of the biggest concerns when camping is where you’re going to sleep, namely: the tent. A tent must be compact enough to store, but spacious enough to not make you feel claustrophobic – it’s a delicate dance between innovation, design, and aesthetics that continues to be researched today.

Vango‘s tent, the Diablo 900XL, basically looks like a hotel. It holds nine people, and features a 3-“bedroom” arrangement with a windowed “front porch.”

This tent measures just over 27 feet long by 28 feet wide. It is made of fire retardant polyester, the living room measures roughly 11 feet by 13 feet and is just over 7 feet tall.

My first thought, and that of my coworker as well, was, “That must be an absolute bitch to assemble.” According to Vango, the entire structure only takes 20 minutes to set up. As far as most other tents go, that’s not bad. But then, a tent of that size must take up a lot of space even when packed up. Well, according to the sales rep, the entire tent “should” fold into a 2 1/2 foot by 7 inch square. However, we all know what folding up a tent is like at the end of the day.

Check out the video below; it’s a bit campy, and measurements are in metric, but you’ll get the general idea.

Unfortunately, the tent is no longer being manufactured. So if you’re really looking for one, we’re sure they’re out there somewhere – just don’t look at Amazon for it any time soon.
