The New Technics Turntable Costs $4000

Splurge Alert: The latest in high-end audio gear will cost you a few months’ rent. Last week at CES, we saw a few cool gadgets that the dance music world might appreciate – like this pair of headphones that streams 1080p video – but this next item might be out of price range for even the most avid music lover.

Panasonic’s Technics SL-1200 turntables were a total hit at the Las Vegas technology conference, as the update replaced the shakier electronic motor with a coreless motor to eliminate vibrations; but now that the turntable is priced at $4000 USD, the enthusiasm might be waning. In addition to minimizing vibrations, the newest model, the SL-1200 Grand Class turntables, will be limited edition – only 1200 will be available to the public. If you’re truly serious about how to listen to your vinyl, the Technics will be out later this year.
