Mysterious producer Lux.impala has just released his latest original, this time in the form of a wonky and brooding trap collaboration with Sober Rob called “Carol.” Made public just in time for the end of the holiday season, the song takes listeners into a unique environment full of plucky cartoon samples and stings of brass over a heavy, complex rhythm. It’s currently available for free download here.
The track begins with squeaks and pulls of far-off strings while echoing voices and xylophones ring out in between. Soon, a clap series reveals the underlying tempo that quickly carries us upwards into the break. Broken bell strikes characterized the drop’s melody, as they’re anchored to a line of sharp percussion. The sounds and samples evolve over the course of the track, eventually punctuated by immense, distant horns.
