As 2015 draws to a close, it’s become apparent that the resurgence of proper house genres will only continue to get stronger in the new year. Future house in particular leads the way for established and up-and-coming producers alike, and a new mashup from one of the genre’s best rising artists looks back on the genre’s hallmarks while moving toward new sounds.
The 16-year-old Dutch wunderkind Mesto has been quiet for a little while now, but his end-of-the-year mashup “Tetris” provides a great bookend to 2015. Mesto mashes up “Truffle Butter” by Nicki Minaj and Drake with a new production, weaving in and out of future house melodies and vocal samples and providing a catchy beat throughout. The mastering and mixing on the track is exceptional, a rare feat for a such a young producer. We look forward to hearing more from Mesto next year and beyond.
