20 Overdoses At Stereosonic Music Festival’s Last Stop Despite Extra Security

Australia’s drug problem is still on the rapid rise as one of their most popular festivals, Stereosonic, faces even more scrutiny following 20 overdoses at their stop in Brisbane. 2 people have already died on the famous touring festival and with the recent overdoses, it does not seem the festival has been able to combat the growing problem.

In a Facebook post prior to the event, Stereosonic did its best to encourage attendees to use restraint and be responsible:

“We cannot express our concerns highly enough regarding the dangers of drug use, We have tragically lost two lives to drugs during our festival and whilst every effort has been made to protect you and keep you safe with our teams of professional medical and security staff, …you as individuals need to make smart choices and understand the risks you are taking. As media reports have indicated there are various highly dangerous substances on the market and there is no way of knowing what is in them. Do not gamble with your life today.”

While some fans and families are blaming the festival for the overdoses and deaths, ultimately, the responsibility lays with the attendees as they are the ones taking these drugs. The show in Brisbane marks the end of the festival’s 5 stop tour and with that festival organizers and police are already planning for more secure measures for Stereosonic’s return in 2o16.
