Art Basel is in its fourth day and some unsettling news is now emerging from the event. It’s been reported that a woman was stabbed last night following an argument with another patron.
The stabbing occurred at the Nova sector, an area of the fair at the Miami Beach Convention Center that focuses on young artists. Fortunately, the assailant was arrested on site. She has been identified as 24-year-old Siyuan Zhao, and, according to the police report, was quoted as saying “I had to kill her and two more.” The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries to her neck and arms, and was immediately transported to the hospital.

Shockingly, others initially thought this was a performance piece. There are reports of patrons walking around the victim, looking at her and the other art as if nothing happened.
One man who saw the #ArtBasel stabbing victim getting stretchered out said "I thought a piece of art had fallen on her."

area where #ArtBasel stabbing happened is open again. Very hush-hush. Oblivious fair-goers sip champagne and critique abstract art

The situation has since been diffused and all activity in the area has resumed. To those at Art Basel (and everywhere else), stay safe!
