Producers Cautious Clay and Keylow have just pooled their musical talents to create a soulful and downtempo remix of Grumby‘s “Refuse.” Representing their artist collective Proper Vibes, the two have flawlessly flipped the original into a jazzy, saxophone-saturated swayer perfect for combatting the season’s cold weather. It’s currently available for free download here.
The track begins with a diverse, smooth percussion arrangement accentuated by sharp stings of synth. Grumby’s vocals soon enter the space above subtle plucks of an electric bass. Fills of electronic tones punctuate the spaces between the rhythm, leading to deadly, reverbed licks of saxophone and trills of high-pitched bells. The elements eventually combine to create a newfound center stage for the vocals’ return. If there’s any criticism to make, it’s that the song ends too soon.
