Steve Angello Inducted Into The Pete Tong Hall Of Fame

Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 Hall Of Fame began in December 2013 with none other than Deep Dish.

Since then, the radio DJ and tastemaker has been lauding producers with talent and influence such as Carl Craig, Frankie Knuckles, Fatboy Slim, Deadmau5 and more. (Notably, Goldie is the only ‘bass’ DJ on the list.)

Last week, Steve Angello got his 21 minutes of spotlight as he was inducted into the wildly prestigious list of producers. Among the topics discussed in the interview were the origins of Swedish House Mafia, and again, the story of how Eric Prydz was almost a member.

At about 9 minutes in, Tong asks about the legacy of SHM, and, as with every interview with a SHM member, the topic of a reunion came up.

“If someone came in 5 or 10 years and said, ‘Hey we have this charity event,’ we would obviously consider it. […] It’s just different now, we’ve grown apart.”

So there you have it, dreams are quashed. But on the bright side, Angello is banking on the chance that EDM and SHM are as popular in 5-10 years as they are even now. And with Angello’s endorsement behind the genre, I think it’ll turn out okay.
