Amidst crashing $200,000 dollar cars and buying more expensive four-wheeled toys, Afrojack has found time to pump out some new material. Turns out Nick van de Wall is an avid Call of Duty player, a big fan of the game since the first n00bs were pwned way back when. It seems only fitting that he should penetrate the game with his Dutch house ooze for all the world to hear.
For Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Afrojack has created “Unstoppable,” a big tune capable to keeping up with the pace of the game. The track kicks off with a dark ambiance, employing sluicing synth pads against a timeless electro house. Reverberating metalloids control the entire first half of “Unstoppable,” sure to please during many a firefight, and totally nailing the Call of Duty atmosphere. However, after the bridge, it feels like just another re-packaged big room tune. It’s still well produced, and the vocal cuts are interesting, but it sounds uninspired and disconnected compared to the ideas of the track’s first half.
Regardless, it’s going to be a rad time playing Black Ops III and charging hard to some hands-in-the-air EDM. Similar to Alesso’s venture into video game stardom, this unexpected collaboration is something we’ll likely see a lot more of in the future.
