Songwriter and vocalist Diane Charlemagne known for work in drum & bass and UK house music has just passed away.
Charlemagne first made waves in the UK electronic scene as the vocalist of British Eurodance group Urban Cookie Collective. Following that, she lent her soulful sounds to a string of successful drum & bass hits such as “Inner City Life” and “Kemistry”, both by Goldie. Other collaborators of Charlemagne included British house DJ/producer Joey Negro with “The Secret Life of Us”, one of the last records fellow lost legend Frankie Knuckles remixed, and Japanese artist Satoshi Tomiie.
Charlemagne’s passing comes following a battle with cancer. She regularly updated her fans via Twitter right up until her passing earlier today which was confirmed via friends Goldie and Joey Negro. Our condolences and thoughts go out to friends and family of Miss Charlemagne at this time.
