New Study Reveals How EDM Culture Has Been Shaped By The Internet

Eventbrite has just released their latest in a series of informational studies directed at the music consuming habits of our younger generations, this time as an update to a previous look at participants’ listening tendencies and live show attendance. “From Stream to Ticket: Mapping the Value of Music Discovery” delves into statistics that cover the general demographics of certain listeners compared to their genres of choice, as well as their online interactions with new material through social media and streaming services.

According to their research, 56% of EDM fans discover upcoming live events on either Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat. 55% prefer receiving the news through email promotions, and online articles or radio features are only favored by 40%. 29% of those surveyed said they usually hear about concerts through word of mouth.

As far as demographics are concerned, it comes as no surprise that over 75% of EDM fans are between the ages of 18 and 34. 63% of them are male, 37% female. What’s more, a remarkable 75% of listeners attend at least one show a month, while 40% attend two or more.

Streaming services are widely known as the backbone of the electronic music listening community. Eventbrite found that 63% of EDM fans check such sites to discover new music first, with only 28% turning to the radio. 17% of those questioned said they rely on social media for their discoveries.

These statistics are only a select few of many other categories that the staff of Eventbrite chose to investigate in their latest study. To read the full report and learn more about the numbers behind the scenes, click here.
