Lollapalooza is known for pitting heavyweight artists against one another, and the Chicago festival certainly continued that trend by having Paul McCartney, Flying Lotus, The Weeknd, and Kaskade all close out the first night of the event. This led to some significant sound bleed, and Kaskade’s set was so loud that it resulted in McCartney calling out the producer during a song dedicated to John Lennon – check out the video below. A few months later, Kaskade has officially commented on the debacle in an interview with Rolling Stone.
Rolling Stone interviewed Kaskade to discuss his new album Automatic, and the music publication managed to learn the Chicago native’s opinion on the McCartney incident. Kaskade read about McCartney’s comments in the newspaper the day following their performances, and said that “he couldn’t stop laughing.” He went on to say the following: 
“I love that! There’s something irreverent about electronic music, that it’s very young and youthful, so the fact that I pissed some old guy off is very funny. Life achievement unlocked.”
It’s a bit questionable that Kaskade, a 44-year-old veteran of dance music, called McCartney an old guy, but given Kaskade’s generally mature world views, it can be assumed that his comment was made in jest. McCartney himself is no stranger to electronic music, and the Beatle even joined Afrojack on stage during Coachella in 2011. Let’s hope the two can eventually hug it out.
