Claptone – “The Only Thing” (Different Recordings)

Claptone continues to drop single after single, and his track record thus far drips with quality. The masked producer hits the house/funk nerve excellently, and his latest single proves that he certainly has a proclivity for making radio-friendly house tracks that don’t pander to top 40 sensibilities.

“The Only Thing” succeeds primarily due to its infectious production, which Claptone layers with piano riffs, a deep synth, and melodic claps. The track’s main weakness comes from its vocals. While the as-of-yet unknown signer delivers fine work, the vocals overall do not match up to the voices found in previous singles like “No Eyes”, “The Music Got Me”, and “Dear Life.” We are curious to hear how the single plays into the whole of Claptone’s debut album Charmer, which releases on October 16.
