Disclosure’s favorite collaborator Sam Smith has been impressing for quite a while now with his solo career. The singer earned himself the coveted job of creating the newest James Bond theme song, working with producer/singer Jimmy Napes to create “Writing’s On The Wall.” It was also reported that the Lawrence brothers were once again helping Smith out, adding a bit of production to the track before its release.
“Writing’s On The Wall” is a very emotional piece, featuring only Smith and what sounds like an entire orchestra. His soft voice croons over some impressive strings, resulting in a chilling piece fit for 007. My only gripe is the lack of any substantial drum work as it makes the track a bit stale; with Disclosure in the studio, I was hoping for a bit more energy in the overall mix. But it’s in no way a deal-breaker, as “Writing’s On The Wall” truly lived up to its hype.
