While Mia Hansen-Løve’s Eden, has seen great praise amongst fans, the CW and CBS TV Studios are keen on developing their own dance music drama. Cue The Drop.
Set against the background of Miami’s electronic dance music scene, The Drop centers around a DJ who’s spiraling out of control, but sees opportunity in his dance music protégé. Of course, to zest up the plot, that protégé is a beautiful African-American woman facing the typical adversity of the music industry. It doesn’t sound too groundbreaking on paper, but we’ll have to sit tight before making any assumptions. We already have Tiësto’s Your Shot USA plaguing the airwaves, but it seems networks aren’t done milking the EDM cash cow.
After their experience working with Tiësto on NCIS: LA, CBS has brought on Steve Angello as executive music producer of the series, so at least the soundtrack will be on point. It’s confirmed that R.J. Cutler will be directing the series, with Kyle Jerrow writing the script, but no further details have been made available yet. Let’s hope this isn’t another We Are Your Friends.
