Panasonic announced plans to restart the legendary Technics brand whose unrivalled turntables were discontinued in the early 2000s.
To satisfy the growing demand for all things analogue, Panasonic’s design plan will pay tribute to the classic SL-1200 model and will also display a new sleek aesthetic, with its luxurious and aluminium sheen.
In an interview with WIRED, Technics director and Panasonic executive producer Michiko Ogawa stated: “Turntables are a very iconic product for the Technics brand [and] it is important to show our sincere dedication [to that]. The turntable market is very small but it is a very important brand product.”
This market is part of the booming vinyl industry which has benefited from a 52% increase in sales since 2013. Audiophiles and purists are constantly seeking new ways to improve their listening experience, and Panasonic’s announcement could be music to their ears.
