Music collectives are all the rage these days, and they really do play an instrumental role in bringing attention to up-and-coming artists. The Echelon collective boasts a fine roster, with members such as Ghastly and Dr. Fresch already breaking through and amassing bigger fanbases. One artist, the U.K.-based producer Linier, may very well be the next member to hit the big leagues, as his latest single “Another Love” is garnering considerable attention on Soundcloud.
“Another Love” epitomizes the best aspects of the new flavors of deep house: a catchy vocal courtesy of CAYO, uplifting synths, and cascading drums. To get some history behind the track and the inspirations driving his music, we interviewed Linier and learned quite a bit about his past, present, and future.
What inspired the production to “Another Love”? How did you link up with CAYO?
I linked up with CAYO through my manager, and he sent me some vocals that I could instantly relate to, as I was going through a bit of a rough patch.
How did you come to be apart of the Echelon artist collective? How has Echelon impacted your career thus far?
I was approached by the guys at Echelon, their inclusion of artists that I look up to and their commitment was something that I really wanted to be a part of. Receiving instant feedback from a variety of different people has helped improve my technical and creative abilities, and having support from the EDM network has really opened up doors to different listeners all over the world.
Your Soundcloud feed only has a few tracks, while many rising producers are known for putting out a track every couple of weeks. Any particular reason behind the relatively few number of tracks?
It’s fair to say that I’m a bit of a perfectionist, and I like to make sure that I have a track exactly how I want it before I make it public. I think having my Soundcloud with fewer tracks means that when I do upload a track it has a bigger impact.
How did you get into electronic music production? What inspired you, and what inspires your current sound?
I have had a lot of experience working with other people, and I wanted to experience creating music as a solo artist. So I downloaded Ableton and taught myself how to use it. Seeing Foals and Disclosure, amongst others a few years ago, was when I started to think that this is what I want to do. This is a drive that I have even more so today, whilst taking some of my inspiration from the 80s era- things like chord progressions and synthesized sounds are something that I incorporate into my own music.
What are your plans for upcoming releases? Perhaps an EP, album?
I’m currently working on a few things, and I am looking forward to my next release in September, so watch this space!
